Practice Areas

We have more than twenty years of experience in three main areas: civil and commercial litigation, international judicial assistance, and arbitration

Statute of Paul Revere and Old North Church

Civil and Commercial Litigation

I prosecute and defend civil and commercial lawsuits for businesses, non-profit institutions, and people. My experience includes high-stakes disputes between business owners, claims involving fraud or unfair and deceptive trade practices, complex contract and license disputes in many industries, claims against fiduciaries, professional advisors, and agents, claims against foreign governments, real estate and leasing cases, and cross-border commercial disputes. I have tried cases and argued appeals in the Massachusetts and federal courts, including the Supreme Judicial Court and federal courts of appeals.

International Judicial Assistance

I use a federal statute, 28 U.S.C. § 1782, to obtain evidence in the United States that my clients can use in lawsuits abroad. I also help American companies and individuals when they need help abroad taking evidence, serving process, or enforcing American judgments. And I help clients enforce foreign judgments in the United States. I have a wide network of colleagues around the world with whom I partner to help Americans in need of help overseas.

I have acted as counsel in commercial arbitrations in the same types of case I handle in court. Arbitration differs from litigation in important ways, and it is important to have counsel who understands the differences and their implications. I am a member of the American Arbitration Association’s national panel of commercial arbitrators and have been appointed as arbitrator in dozens of cases. If you are in a dispute, you can hire me to serve as arbitrator to help you resolve it, either directly or through the AAA. My goal is to get parties to a fair resolution in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable amount of money.
